The Social Network

Throughout the years the world has evolved from different communicating cultures starting from oral to written to print and now to electronic. The academy award winning movie “the social network” shows a new aspect of electronic culture and how it connects people to the world. A man named Mark Zuckerberg is a Harvard student who (played by Jesse Eisenberg) creates a social networking website that is known as Facebook and becomes one of the most popular online websites. The site allows individuals to communicate with people from any side of the world. The movie is based on the real creation of the site and then leads to a more personal look centring on Zuckerberg’s life after the creation of the site.

The electronic culture took a big leap when the Facebook was established and now mostly every person is connected to this site.  Facebook has managed to replace many other communication devices in the world such as phones. It’s another way for companies to communicate with clients through Facebook by creating pages. People are now able to create discussions between numerous amounts of people and have a business meeting from the comfort of their homes. The Site is not only used to communicate with friends but it’s also a tool used to evaluate people applying for jobs. The whole world is able to see what an individual is doing and can access a person’s information easily.

Even though Facebook is a great communicating site, there are some negative things that come along with it. Face to face communication is reduced even more. When phones were invented the amount of face time you got with a person declined and now sites like Facebook are diminishing it even more. People tend to isolate themselves more from the community and spend more time on the computer thinking their “connected” to the world. Along with the advancement of electronic culture, other traditions are lost.

“The Social Network” is an inside film leading to the creation of Facebook and the problems that came with it. The film also indicates how Mark Zuckerberg was being sued for being accused of stealing someone else’s idea and gives an inside story of how the site was made. Along the way to achievement Zuckerberg encounters many problematic situations involving lawsuits that create a debate about the famous site itself. An astonishing film that gains your interest and keeps you engaged till the end.
